TD8 #18: Orchestral Dovetailing

Been studying some Ravel today and found this device in one of his orchestral works. The device is the way the melody is orchestrated starting in bar 5, going up and down in the best suited instruments in the woods and strings. The dovetailing part is the way each phrase is connected by overlapping the end of one phrase with the beginning of the next. This ensures a smooth flow to the whole line. This concept can obviously be applied in many different situations. It's especially important in the woodwinds, where you need to let the players breathe during longer passages.
